Trip Overview

Who says you can't have adventure and luxury together?

An exclusive Nepal adventure journey. Combining an easy Himalayan trek, rafting, and wildlife watching in the jungle while staying in the best accommodations that exist along the way. This luxury adventure holiday provides an insight into the diversity of Nepal, from the lofty peaks of the Himalayas to the almost sea-level Gangetic plains. Overland travel is kept to a bare minimum, too. Leaving Kathmandu you head for laid-back Pokhara and the adventure begins with a rather easy walk in the Annapurna's in the delightful Modi Khola Valley, where you'll encounter pretty villages as well as dramatic Himalayan views too. Moving from mountains to water and a paddle down the Seti River through a sub-tropical valley landscape that just cannot be seen except by being on the river, with an overnight at a cosy permanent riverside camp before moving on to Nepal's most famous National Park, Chitwan staying at Chitwan's premier accommodation.

Fly to Pokhara and a short walk to Birethanti

A private transfer to the airport for the 25-minute flight to sub-tropical Pokhara. A private transfer of around an hour takes you out of Pokhara and to the start of your horse-shoe circuit trek of the delightful Modi Khola Valley at Nayapul. Today is rather easy walking-wise and a nice way to 'warm up' as you follow the ridge line through forest to then begin to descend down towards the Modi Khola River. Reaching the Sanctuary Lodge (1060 m), you can explore the nearby village of Birethanti in the afternoon before perhaps enjoying a sundowner in the gardens and enjoying the sub-tropical climate. Walking time is approximately less than 2 hours with a 350-metre descent.  Please also see IMPORTANT NOTE on Day 3.

    DAY
    3

    Trek to Ghandruk

A longer walk today, but it can still be enjoyed at an unhurried pace. A well-established trail follows the course of the Modi Khola upstream and begins to rise up the hillside, passing tiny villages and terraced paddy fields along the way. The gradient increases as you then ascend via a stone-stepped trail that rises continually upwards to Ghandruk, the principal settlement of the Annapurna region. For sure, as you climb upward, take rests along the way and enjoy the views across the valley to Macchapuchare (Fishtail). Reaching the Himalaya Lodge at Ghandruk (1940 m), you can now relax and soak up the views of snow-covered peaks. Walking time is approx. 5–6 hours with around 890 m of ascent.

IMPORTANT NOTE - The trekking route to Ghandruk (via Birethanti) from the main road at Nayapul is now entirely on a recently constructed jeep road. Whilst this road (of sorts) does not experience much in the way of vehicular activity, it is possible that, while the scenery remains the same, some people may not wish to or enjoy walking on the jeep road. Consequently, if you prefer, you can be driven directly from Pokhara to Ghandruk by private 4WD vehicle and thus no longer spend a night in Birethanti, reducing the trip duration by one day.

    Accommodation: Himalaya Comfort Lodge, Ghandruk
    Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    4

    Trek to Majhgaun

It's a case of down, across, and up today as you first descend to the Modi Khola River on a stone-stepped trail and cross the river by way of a small bridge. At first, it's a relatively steep but not particularly sustained climb up to Landruk. But there's no reason to rush. There are tiny homesteads along the way to enjoy too as you rise and look across to the side of the valley from whence you came as the lofty peaks of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli come into view. Reaching Landruk, the gradient begins to decrease as you contour the hillside on a trail that is now more undulant in nature as you continue to Mahjgaun (1450m).Walking time: approx. 5 hours with around 700 m of descent and 500 m of ascent.

    Accommodation: Gurung Comfort Lodge, Mahjgaun
Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

    Trek to Dhampus

Beautiful walking today as the trail rises up through dense forests of rhododendron, with occasional breaks to afford breathtaking views across to the Annapurna's. You'll walk by several small villages, cross over the Deorali Pass, and then begin a steady descent to Dhampus (1500m). Walking time: approx. 5–6 hours, with around 600 m of ascent and 500 m of descent. Enjoy a refreshing Chai here with great Himalayan views.

    To Pokhara

Leaving the lodge behind, at first the trail is virtually level as you follow the ridge line through woods and farmland, but then it begins to rapidly lose height as the trail descends through the forests. As you emerge on the road, a private vehicle will be waiting to drive you the short distance back to Pokhara. Walking time: approx. 2 hrs. You should arrive back in Pokhara to take a leisurely lunch and relax for the rest of the day, reflecting on your short trek in the Annapurna region.

    Seti River Rafting

It's around a two-and-a-half-hour private transfer to reach the put-in point at Damauli and the Seti River. You'll receive a safety briefing and be provided with wetsuits, safety helmets, and life jackets. Take what you need with you in dry bags in the raft. You'll be reunited with your main baggage at the end of the rafting. Onto the river and some very pleasant paddling along calm waters and through the jungle-clad hillsides of the Seti River Valley. In the balmy, sub-tropical climate, you should always keep a lookout for colourful kingfishers and other bird life too. It's all very calm and peaceful (no roads) most of the way, although there are some fun and easy grade 2 rapids just before you reach our very own Seti River Camp. Rafting time is approximately 3 hours.
