Begnas Lake

Begnas Lake

Lake side tranquility, sub-tropical climate and himalayan views.

That used to be Pokhara's claim to fame. However, Pokhara just seems to grow and grow, and Begnas Lake is seemingly taking over Pokhara's mantle as the relaxed lakeside place to visit in Nepal, still with those magnificent mountain views.

Begnas Lake and the 'adjacent' Rupakot Lake are just 8 miles from Pokhara, so they also enjoy the same balmy, sub-tropical climate, but here amongst the forested hill sides dotted with small villages, everything is calmer and moves at a much slower pace. Ideal if you have 'chilling out' in mind.

Begnas Lake is a great alternative to Pokhara, especially if you want to just relax in the warmth of the sun for a day or two after your trek.

You can enjoy a number of interesting, low-level day walks and discover a more rural Nepal that you wouldn't necessarily find in built up Pokhara.

"Pop over" to Rupa Lake, which is even more peaceful, or head up through terraced fields and wooded hills that roll into the lakes to discover nature and a more authentic hill village in Nepal.

And, just like in Pokhara, you can, of course, rent a boat and enjoy a paddle on the lake beneath the Himalayas.

Although Begnas has seen some development in recent years, don't expect to find lots of bars and cafes. That's not what Begnas is about; for that, you have Pokhara.
